Located near Onekama, Portage Lake is north of Manistee and South of Frankfort on the shores of Manistee County in Michigan's lower peninsula. There are two Michigan DNR public access boat launch sites on the north side of the lake. One boat ramp is towards the west end, and the other boat ramp is towards the east end in the Onekama Village Park.
